Freshwater Fly Fishing

Northern California

  • The Lower Sacramento River or “Lower Sac”, is one of the best tailwater fisheries in the country. Great populations of wild fish, regulated flows, and the nearly constant 55 degree water that flows from Lake Shasta keep the Lower Sac fishing well nearly every day of the year! Home to trophy sized rainbow trout, migratory steelhead and salmon, and in the lower stretches of the river striped, largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass...

Tell us what you are after, and we will get you on the water with the best guides in the area!

  • A little over an hour west from Redding, the Trinity river is a popular destination for anglers pursuing steelhead. Whether you prefer to drift indicators or swing flies for these fabled fish, the Trinity offers up prime opportunities for both of these endeavors. We will put you in touch with the right guide for your style!

  • The Fall River Valley is home to one of the largest spring creek systems in North America. Insect and nutrient rich, cold, clear water provides prime habitat for great numbers of resident rainbow trout. The town of Fall River Mills is just over an hour to the east of Redding. This beautiful, technical piece of water is a favorite to many anglers and guides.

  • The McCloud River starts at the base of Mount Shasta and flows south to Shasta Lake. One of the more famous rivers in the Western United States, the Mccloud River's resilient strain of Redband Trout was once used to populate many popular global fishing destinations... New Zealand, Australia, Patagonia, Chile... This classic, freestone style river flows through a beautiful canyon, over big boulders and into deep pools. There are roughly 10 miles of public water below the Mccloud Reservoir which is where most fly anglers concentrate. It happens to be one of our favorite places to guide!

  • Flowing from the base of Lake Siskiyou down to Shasta Lake, the "Upper Sac" has over 35 miles of water that is open to fishing year round! Pocket water, deep pools, shallow tailouts...This river has all of the features you would want in a freestone trout stream! Strong hatches in the spring and summer keep anglers coming back to this gem every year. Some of the closer zones to access on the river are only 30 minutes north of Redding.

  • Hat Creek is another famous piece of water within striking distance from Redding. We primarily focus on the water from Powerhouse #2 down to Lake Britton. Large numbers of insects, wild trout, and easy wading make this a popular spot for many anglers. Dry fly fishing during a strong hatch can be challenging yet exciting!
